The Aims Statement for Greenside Infant and Nursery School

Teaching and Learning:

At Greenside Infant and Nursery School each child receives quality, effective teaching which is well planned and organised in such a way that every pupil can reach their full potential.

The teaching is appropriate to their needs and reflects their learning ability.

The staff have high expectations of each pupil and their achievements are recognised and valued.· The curriculum throughout the school allows for progression and continuity with shared goals and values which are understood by the children and all the staff.·

There is a continual striving to raise the standards within the school and the provision made for the children is regularly monitored and evaluated.· Learning is through experiential activities.

The resources used are appropriate and well maintained. The children are taught to use the resources carefully, safely, and independently.

Attitudes and Behaviour of the Pupils:

The pupils are made aware of what is regarded as acceptable behaviour and of the rules to which they must adhere.

The pupils are encouraged to interact with other children and adults in a positive manner and to develop tolerance and understanding of other people.

The pupils are taught right from wrong and made aware of the consequences of unacceptable behaviour.

The pupils are taught to accept responsibility for their actions and to value other people's achievements.

The pupils' self esteem is promoted and times are set aside for the children to discuss how to improve their behaviour.

The pupils are encouraged to take a pride in themselves, their appearance, their work and their school.

Everyone works towards these aims and shares common goals. All the people involved in the school understand and know the purpose for them being there and are striving to create an effective school for the pupils of Greenside Infant and Nursery School.
