Jarvis
Under Construction
As most of you are already aware this school, along with 19 other Kirklees schools, is part of the Public Private Partnership with Jarvis and Kirklees Council. The school is due to begin its construction phase in the Spring Term 2003. The school will undergo refurbishment of all areas, remodelling of some and the building of 4 new classrooms, which will be joined to the Thorpe Lane end of the school. We will endeavour to give parents up to date information as we receive it from jarvis Construction UK however, as you will appreciate, it may not always be possible to give all information well in advance. We will send information by pupil post, put information on our website and on the notice board at the Southfield Road gate.
Though we will do our best to minimise disruption there may be unforseen circumstances where it is impossible for school, on health and safety grounds, to be in session. May we, therefore, further remind parents to ensure that their children know what to do in the case of emergency closure.
Jarvis Construction UK are due on site at Almondbury Junior School on Monday, 20 January 2003. From this time and until further notice the Thorpe Lane entrance cannot be used. Therefore, all pupils must enter the school via the gate on Southfield Road not the goods entrance as this will be part of Jarvis' construction compound.
Construction is unlikely to be completed until the end of August 2003. We thank you in anticipation for the patience and support during this time of improvement to our school building.

The construction programme is now underway and four mobile classrooms will be sited on the school field to allow work within school to begin. The programme will involve all pupils in moving classrooms so that remodelling and refurbishment work can take place, but this movement will be kept to the minimum. The programme will begin with Year 4 classrooms, then Year 5, Year 6 and finally Year 3. During this process 4P, 4B, 4S, and 5M will be housed in mobile classrooms which have full facilities including toilets. Playgorunds will be changed to accommodate these new arrangements. Year 3, 4 and 5 will occupy the Southfield Road playground and Year 6 the Thorpe Lane playground.
May we also remind parents again that the Southfield Road drive (top drive) and the car park area adjoining it are part of the construction site and must not be entered under any circumstances.
